About the artwork

In this work, part of the thirteenth supplication of Sahifa Sajjadiya is rendered in a structure close to siyah-mashq, in black ink on an artificially aged background. The repetition and interweaving of the letters carry the text beyond the level of reading and turn it into an element for building a visual space.

The texture of the paper, the darkness of the ink, and the density of the writing all work with the meaning of the prayer. The words take on a quiet and reflective presence on the page, poised between appearing and remaining concealed.

Text in the Artwork:
(Do not remove from us the veil You have placed over us before the witnesses, on the Day when You lay open the records of Your servants.)
