Inspired by Qasem Soleimani’s smile, this portrait replaces conventional drawn lines with continuous repetitions of the name “Qasem.” Changes in the density and direction of the writing create the lighter and darker areas of the face, allowing the word to function simultaneously as writing and as the material from which the portrait is formed.
